Financial education in Africa

Does possessing or giving make you happy?

Maybe you wouldn’t expect it; Jesus talks a lot about finances in His teachings. Money or the lack of it is often a cause of poverty, greed and oppression. Money can also be a means to support others. An instrument to build a hopeful future.

No money…

Jesus Himself did not posses much. He continually shared and put the interest of others above His own. Jesus lived in complete dependency and provision of God our Father. He asks us to take care of the poor and needy. Money is a means to do this. Not to possess or stack, but meant to share. You could help people in poverty in three ways, from a natural point of view:

  1. Give them food (emergency help)
  2. Educate them to grow their own food (developmental work)
  3. Educate them to earn money, so they can buy food (business as mission)

Good money…

Our foundation aims for the second way, to train people to grow their own food. After a successful harvest, possessions come into play. This is a new situation for many people. Dealing with money in a proper way, is something one must learn. We complement our training with financial education. The material we use is developed by Crown Malawi and is called the African Money Map. It is available in the APP we developed. Investing, saving, making budgets, spending in a right way are essential skills for farmers. All education is based on the Bible. Gods Word contains wise advice on how to deal with money en possession. Bearing in mind that the most precious possession is an eternal life with Him!

Share money…
